Diamond Colors
The diamond color scale is used to ascertain the technical color of diamond rings. According to the GIA, diamond color actually refers to a diamond's "lack of color". Diamond rings that feature black, yellow, or any other exotic color diamond are referred to as "fancy diamond rings".
Diamond Color Scale:
Diamond colors are assessed on a diamond color scale. Diamonds that have less color are coveted. The scale ranges from D to Z, D color is the most desired and Z the least desired.
D, E, F Color Diamond Rings
Diamond rings graded in this range are referred to as "colorless". These are the most expensive diamond rings.
G, H, I, J Color Diamond Rings
The next diamond color range is "near colorless". These are intermediate quality and have value, although not top value.
K, L, M Color Diamond Rings
These colors are not highly desired and are referred to as "faint".
N, O, P, Q, R Color Diamond Rings
These diamonds are low color quality and referred to as very "light".
S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z Color Diamond Rings
The lowest quality diamond color is "very light". These are not typically used in diamond ring jewelry.
Fancy Color Diamond Rings
Fancy color diamond rings may be any other color such as black, yellow, or pink. Depending upon size, quality and rarity, these can be very expensive diamond rings
